How can there be music in the worst place in the world?
This extraordinary film tells the remarkable story of cellist Anita Lasker-Wallfisch, one of the last surviving members of the Auschwitz orchestra who played and created music during the terrors of the Holocaust. Through rare interviews, moving archival footage, and powerful musical performances, the film explores how music became a lifeline, a form of testimony, and even an act of resistance in one of history’s darkest chapters.
The film also highlights the stories of three other musicians from across Europe: whose powerful performances explore themes of loss, longing and cultural memory, while addressing head on the barbaric realities of the Nazi regime at its most notorious death camp.
Powerful and poignant documentary directed by Toby Trackman, also featuring Jonathan Freedland, Petra Gelbart and Krzysztof Kulisiewicz.
