A rare and intimate portrait of Palestinian farmers and their ancient olive trees – some more than 1,000 years old – as living symbols of heritage, livelihood, and resilience. Through the journey of a Palestinian-American anthropologist, entrepreneur, and son of a watermelon farmer who returns to the occupied West Bank as the olive harvest faces unprecedented challenges, the film follows a movement of small-scale farmers preserving thousands of years of ecological knowledge through fair trade, regenerative agriculture, and community cooperation.

Documenting agricultural and permaculture practices shaped over generations, Land of Canaan showcases farming as both cultural preservation and a vision for the future. It shows how food sovereignty, environmental stewardship, and economic resilience are deeply intertwined. At a time when Palestinian land, ecosystems, and livelihoods face ongoing persecution, the film illuminates what is at stake – and why protecting these traditions and communities matters far beyond Palestine.
