Expression, interaction, exercise but most of all FUN!

Find out more about the Picky Dance Academy below:

Ballet is one of the most popular forms of dance for children. It is known for its grace and fluidity of movement, and is great for posture and balance. It dates back to the 17th century and the conventional steps, grace and fluidity of movement are still found in Ballet today. Ballet has a technique which is the foundation of all dance.

This form of dance is fun. It is a varied style of dance where one minute the child may be dancing to the rhythm of a drum, then next to a funky jazz style. Modern dance is great for physical strength and flexibility, and gives kids the opportunity to explore their feelings through dance.

The Picky Dance Academy is delighted to announce that there will be two brand new dance instructors to the Picky dance programme in 2018. Meet Donna and Charley:

Hi, I’m Donna. I’ve been dancing for about 20 years and started teaching children in 2001 at Schools in and around the South East of England. To start with, I’ll be teaching a new syllabus of Modern, Ballet and Tap with many other exciting plans in the pipeline.

I studied Dance at college and gained a Btec National Diploma in Dance where I also started my studies with the International Dance Teachers’ Association (IDTA). Along with these three disciplines for junior courses, I also teach Zumba, Zumba Gold, Zumba kids and Aqua classes.

I’ve performed in a number of shows around the UK and Europe such as Grease (where I played Frenchie), danced at Her Majesty’s Theatre in the West End in London, performed on cruise ships, sang and danced in shows abroad all around the Mediterranean and I was also a Butlins Redcoat.

I’m passionate about dance and feel it allows kids to explore who they are as people while building confidence and making new friends. Charley and I are very excited to be representing The Picky Dance Academy and we can’t wait to get started!

Charley Rudge

My name is Charley and I have been dancing since the age of 3. From 3-8 years old I did highland dancing and from 9- 16 years I danced at Just Dance here in Orkney, doing modern, tap, ballet, jazz each week. As well as doing contemporary and hip hops workshops, I have featured in many musicals in Orkney such as The King & I, Annie (part was Duffy) and more recently Cats. I also featured dancing on The World cruise ship two years ago when coming to Orkney, as well as going to London for many years on dance trips and dancing at Pineapple Dance studios.

Last year (2016) I was the Dance Ambassador for Stromness Academy which featured me holding dance workshops and games for events within the school, as well as teaching sessions at some primary schools on a Friday afternoon. By being able to do this I undertook a weeks training with Y-DANCE and earned my SCQF Level 4 Award in Dance Leadership.

In 2011 I go ta place to go to Fettes College in Edinburgh for 1 week. This was a residential programme where I received a part in Edinburgh’s Supterteen The Musical. At the end of the musical  Trinity College London awarded me with Grade 6 Musical Theatre in Production with Merit.

I am really looking forward to teaching the Picky dance programme along with Donna!
